A learning platform built around how A/L tuition actually works
Moving batches, attendance, past-paper practice, and fees off paper and into one system, without forcing the institute into a university-shaped platform.
The problem
What was happening
The institute taught several A/L Chemistry batches across the week. Attendance was kept in registers, marks in a notebook, and fees in a separate ledger, so answering a parent's question meant checking three places. Past papers were printed, distributed, collected, and marked by hand, which limited how often students could practise and how quickly they got feedback. Off-the-shelf platforms assumed semesters, credits, and course enrolment — none of which match how Sri Lankan tuition is organised.
The approach
What we did about it
In order, because the order is part of the answer.
Modelled the domain around batches, streams, and the academic year rather than around courses and credits, after mapping how the institute actually schedules and groups students.
Built timed past-paper delivery with automatic MCQ marking and upload-and-mark handling for structured questions, mirroring the existing paper workflow rather than replacing it wholesale.
Added per-question analysis so teachers could see which topics a whole batch had missed, instead of only individual scores.
Implemented guardian access scoped strictly to their own child's attendance, results, and fee status.
Optimised every student-facing page for mid-range Android phones on mobile data, since that is how the students access it.
Imported existing student lists and configured batch fee structures before handover, then trained the office staff who run it daily.

The outcome
What changed
Described as what the system now does rather than as a percentage we cannot substantiate.
Attendance, results, and fee status for any student are answerable from one screen instead of three books.
Students practise past papers on their phones with immediate MCQ feedback, and teachers mark structured answers in the platform.
Per-question analysis shows teachers where a batch is weak before the next class rather than after the term test.
Guardians see attendance and results directly, which removed a large share of routine phone calls to the office.
Fee reminders go out automatically before the due date, replacing manual follow-up from the ledger.
